This is my closet. My most favourite area in the house because it holds all of my most favourite things - well, my favourite material things, anyway - my pretty clothes.
And in honour of I Like Pretty Clothes turning 3 years old very shortly, I’m going to give away some of the items from this closet to one lucky (at least I hope they think so!) winner.
Each of these things has either never been worn, or was only worn once and is therefore practically new. So I’m not giving away shitty things, in case you were wondering. :)
Here they are:
A bird necklace that I bought from Twisted Mind of Mine. It is super cute, but I only wore it once as I have another bird necklace that I tend to gravitate to instead, if I’m in the mood for a bird necklace, that is. So hopefully it will now go to a better home. (Ok, so the necklace isn’t technically from my closet because I actually keep my necklaces on hooks on my wall. But we don’t have to be super literal, right? )
This pink leopard scarf is from Dorothy Perkins and is super awesome, but I have NEVER worn it. I don’t know why, other than I rarely wear scarves at all. It really needs to go to someone worthy of it, because I’m just not.
This dress is from City Chic and is an XS (the top part is super stretchy, the bottom is lined). It was one of the special limited editions that they released around Christmas last year and only sold in store. I’ve worn it once. It is super cute, but … I just don’t wear it. It comes with a matching tie belt, as shown.
And finally, the crown jewel of this giveaway:
This jacket is really special - it is a handmade, 60s style swing jacket with a tie at the neck. So cute, so very well made, just beautiful. It has NEVER been worn - I bought it from the woman who made it because it is freaking adorable and she is super talented, and it has hung in my closet ever since. Which is a shame. It has 3/4 sleeves, a swing hem with back pleat, and is cropped. Would look adorable over a wiggle dress or pencil skirt and top. This is one of a kind, and is really my way of saying thanks to all of you who have supported this blog over the years.
So, that brings me to the important bits - how do you win this?
- you should follow my blog (I wouldn’t really make that an issue, but since the point of this giveaway is to say thank you to my followers, you should probably be one), and
- reblog or like this post.
I will use one of those random number generator thingies to draw a winner at noon on 14 September (NZ time), which is the official 3 year anniversary of my blog. I’ll send the prize anywhere in the world (yikes!).
And I might throw in a couple of extra surprises before I post it.
Oh, you only need to like or reblog this once.
That should do it. But feel free to ask me if you have a question or if I forgot something or didn’t explain something properly.
I’ve heard some people complain about peplum, how it’s ugly and not flattering. And to them I say, “Cool, you’re entitled to your opinion.”
But I love it.

As promised, here is my outfit photo with the best skirt ever. I wore it last night to the Miss Burly Q/Mz Burlesque competition (such a great show - the Mz Burlesque contest was for women over 40, and it was really inspiring. One of the contestants was in her 70s!). This skirt is high waisted, a lovely high quality stretchy knit, with the most beautiful pattern of rainbow sequins. I felt like a million bucks in it, and it got lots of compliments from people at the show. Of the three sequined skirts I now have from ASOS, this is my favourite. I want to wear it all the days.

On Thursday I had a meeting with one of our big sponsors, so I dressed up kind of corporate.
And then I posed stupidly with a skull.

So, I asked last week for suggestions for an outfit for a special event - thank you to everyone who took the time to make a suggestion! However, [sheepishly typing this next bit] I am ashamed to admit that I didn’t take any of them.
I know, I suck, but I’ll explain.
You see, the leopard print Betsey dress from Pinup Girl Clothing arrived on Monday. So it wasn’t part of the equation when everyone made their suggestions. And I just had to wear something new when I had the option.
Also: I was very close to wearing this dress, as it was one of the clear favourites on tumblr, a Facebook group I belong to and of the group of friends who raided my closet on the weekend. But it felt really dressy, and although the event was special, it wasn’t necessarily something I wanted to get too fancy for.
So it was kind of meant to be that the Betsey arrived in time, and made her first appearance at the special event (don’t worry, I will elaborate more on that at a later date, it is kind of top secret at the moment). She’s the perfect blend of fabulous and not-too-fancy. I also added some red lipstick to the equation - just not in time for the photo - in case you were wondering.

Another dress I contemplated for a long time before buying, but am very happy I did. It’s comfortable, fits wells and has a lovely print. Highly recommend.

This is my newest dress. It was created by Super Amanda and Betty of Etsy’s “Snappy Shop” as a Bridesmaid’s sample for Amanda’s vow renewal ceremony later this year. Amanda runs Blue Fountain Plaza on Facebook and Etsy and also offers a consulting service for those interested in getting custom vintage reproduction clothing. For a small donation she’ll help you find rare fabrics, get the right over and under bust fit and guide you to some of the best private seamstresses online as she’s worked with many of them. She’ll also be releasing a line of bolero jackets later this year.
The dress is gorgeous! I was a little worried when it arrived that it might be a bit too big in the bust, as it is elasticised and pleated and gave the illusion of being bigger than it is. But the fit is fantastic, it couldn’t have been more perfect. It has wide straps that I will have to alter as they are a little long, but Amanda said she was going to leave them longer so I could fix them to the perfect length for me. I just was so impatient, I had to wear it right away! The shrug was necessary because it is winter here, and made it so you can’t tell the straps are a bit too long. It worked well with the tights and shrug, but once I fix the straps, it will also be great in the summer.
The print is fantastic as well - such lovely vibrant colours. I wore my hot pink petticoat underneath to match the pink in the flowers - unfortunately I forgot to flash it for the camera! (You’ll just have to imagine it.)
It was a great outfit for the world premiere opening night of a new musical I went to on Saturday night, and it got a lot of comments. I will definitely have to get one of Amanda’s matching boleros once those are available!

Some photos from before last night’s Frolic Lounge, the burlesque show I was in this weekend. It was the graduating show for all of us who have just completed Miss La Belle’s burlesque classes, and it was an amazing experience with a bunch of totally awesome babes. So glad I decided to conquer some fears and get up on that stage, even if was only to do the group performance and then stage kitten. That was more than I ever thought I would do! So much respect for all of my friends who choreographed and costumed their own performances - everyone was amazing, I am so proud!!

I have a very difficult time resisting temptation, especially in the form of dresses. Here’s the new City Chic frock - it gets a big yay from me!
Also, out of interest to some might be the fact that this is my 400th outfit post on the blog! Holy fuck!
